September 4-25, 2010 • March 12-26, 2011
21 days 'voluntour' with weekend excursions. Optional extensions.
For this trip we have teamed up with the Rural Women's Movement of South Africa to offer you an extraordinary volunteer experience. The women and girls in rural areas have very few rights. The Rural Women's Movement (RWM), founded by our good friend, Sizani Ngubane, helps empower women to be more self-sufficient.
We need dedicated volunteers to teach computer skills or any marketable skill. We need volunteers who want to tutor math, science or English. We need volunteers to come up with job or business suggestions. We need people who can document the process and the women's stories in photographs or video. We will present workshops on how other cultures and other countries fought for equal rights. According to the RWM these rural women need a strategy going forward. Come lend your expertise and talents and have a great adventure along the way.
We will start in Johannesburg where you will visit downtown Jo'burg, Soweto, and the Apartheid Museum. Then we will wind our way to KwaZulu-Natal through the lovely countryside visiting some of the small towns along the way--you will get to see rural South Africa up close. Our base will be in Mooi River near the Central Drakensberg area. This is one of the most beautiful and least touristy areas in South Africa. We will stay in a lovely B&B and take side excursions each weekend.
The women of South Africa need your help--come join us on this trip.

"The two weeks we spent in South Africa with you were unforgettable — it's hard to say which days were most memorable. We continue to replay the magnificent scenes of ALL the animals in their natural habitat and the wonderful camps and lodges we visited-- great and comfortable accommodations with superb staffs.
Also the dramatically different regions of geography and topography that South Africa offers, along with the interesting and changing cultures to which you exposed us.The highlight, perhaps, was the fact that we rarely saw any tour buses, which means we saw the real South Africa!"
Tex
"Thank you so much for introducing us to South Africa. You saw to it that we were exposed to a little bit of everything with great humor. The trip was better than we could have hoped for."
Holly
